Évora, Alentejo - Portugal - Touristic Animation - Animação Turistica

The Alentejo owns treasures discretely and harmoniously set in the landscape, ready to be found by the persons who enjoy the deep pleasure of discovery. 
Conceived by half-day excursions and departure from Évora, our thematic and personalized tours give you the possibility to appreciate the valuable heritage of Alentejo guided by our experts, always considering your particular interests.

Therefore, we created to you the following time travel:

   1 - ÉVORA – WORLD HERITAGE CITY, where is well preserved a unique combination of architectural marks from different periods and cultures of the last two thousand years.

  

   2 -SACRED PLACES of the PRÉ-HISTORY, a tour discovering the Escoural Cave (occasionally closed) with its paintings and engravings on rocks, the Dolmen-Chapel of S. Brissos, the Dolmen of Zambujeiro, the Menir and Cromlech of Almendres.

  3 - MONSARAZ, is a small MEDIEVAL FORTRESS untouched, with its walls once alert to the Guadiana river and its Doors open to a breathless view, where the Fresco of the Judge and the parish Church surprises us, among other interesting details.

 4 - VILA VIÇOSA has the Ducal Palace of the Braganza, Kings of Portugal from 1640 up to 1910, showing a collection of painting, furniture, tapestry, porcelain, carriages y armoury, among others also important, where it is possible to revive the court ambience of the portuguese aristocracy.

  

   5 - The HANDYCRAFT in AZARUJA (cork), ESTREMOZ (marble and clay) and ARRAIOLOS (rugs) are an example of the skill and art of the people manufacturing objects simultaneously functional and decorative from available materials in the surrounding area.

   6 -The city of BEJA, over the plane of south Alentejo, keeps memories of romans, visigoths and arabs who made it an important centre of the region. Birthplace of the future king D. Manuel I, here his mother founded one of the most important Convents of Portugal, today Regional Museum, where Sister Mariana Alcoforado wrote the famous Portuguese Letters.

  

   7 -PORTALEGRECASTELO de VIDE y MARVÂO are three cities with fortresses built on the Mountain of S. Mamede, important to the appropriate knowledge of the territory and history of the Alentejo, with a particular mark of the jewish presence. (Only full-day excursion)

Sunset in Alentejo 

Along this evening walk, we can appreciate the quiet landscape of pasture, cattle and the woodland of Holm oaks and cork trees of Alentejo. The itinerary starts at Monte do Sobral, visiting the ruins of Monte Seixo da Oliveira and returning to the starting point to watch the magic moment of sunset in the horizon. Difficulty level: 1/5 (not difficult)

Meeting point: Monte do Sobral (between Viana do Alentejo and Alcáçovas GPS 38º 22’ 50’’ N and 08º 05’ 02’’ W) – 18h30
Distance: about 10 Km
Duration: about 03h00

Next dates: Saturday 09th and 23rd June; 07th July.
Price: €10 (ten euros) per person, including taxes, monitor and insurance, according with the Decree Law nº 108/2002 of 16 April for touristic animation activities.

For those who want, at the end of this evening walk Monte do Sobral offers a buffet with Alentejo titbits - “petiscos” with he cost of €10 (ten euros) per person, drinks not included. Morning in Alcáçovas 

 

Morning walk in rural paths surrounding Alcáçovas, a territory of farming activities amid olive trees, cork and holm oaks. Return to the village through its old streets and belvede-res that keep living memories of the History of Portugal. . Difficulty level: 1/5 (not difficult)
